今年の6~8月にクラウドファンディングに初挑戦をし、139名の方々から2,242,555円という大きなご支援をいただきました。
その節は、本当にありがとうございました。

ただ、トレーラーハウス設置に向けて目標としている金額には、助成金や手出しを合わせてもあと700万円以上足りない状況です。再度たくさんの方にご支援をお願いすることに葛藤がありましたが、応援してくださっている方々から「また挑戦してみたら？」「協力するよ！」という温かいお言葉に後押しされ、今回、2回目のクラウドファンディングに挑戦させていただくことになりました。

Give adult cats a chance!

Adult cats living outdoors are highly likely to be carriers of feline AIDS, and so they need to be isolated in order to be protected. However, current facilities do not have isolation rooms, so carrier cats are kept in cages, unable to move freely and not easily accustomed to people. As awareness of the issue has spread, the number of adoptions has increased, but the adoption rate remains low compared to healthy cats, and it is difficult to keep them together, so in the current situation where there are no isolation facilities, there are still many cases where people have no choice but to give up on protecting them.

From a "narrow cage" to an "expanding future"

We are currently planning to install a large trailer house on the current shelter site to create a new home for rescued cats. This will not only provide an isolation room for carrier cats, but also allow the current shelter to be used as an isolation room for injured cats with infectious diseases. As the shelter will be located facing the road, there will be more opportunities for people and cats to meet. (The current shelter is in the attic.) By introducing the trailer house, we hope to strengthen our protection system and promote adoption.

Advantages of trailer homes

Because Amami Oshima is a remote island and building materials and transportation costs are high, it is expected that it would cost more than 20 million yen to build a comparable building, but a trailer home can be kept to around 12 million yen including transportation costs, and it can also be relocated in the future. The trailer home has a sturdy steel frame, independent infrastructure, and can be towed if necessary, which increases its potential as an evacuation shelter in the event of a disaster. Another major advantage is that it can be used as an evacuation shelter where people and pets can stay together.

※「猫エイズ（＝猫免疫不全ウイルス）」とは、主にケンカによる咬み傷から感染する病気です。唾液の中に含まれるウイルスが、傷口から体内に入ることでうつります。性交渉や母猫から子猫への感染もありますが、確率は低めです。人や犬にうつることはなく、ネコ科の動物にしか感染しません。また、空気感染や、同じ部屋での軽い接触ではうつらないため、必要以上に心配する必要はありません。猫エイズに感染しても、すぐに病気になるわけではありません。数年から10年以上も症状が出ないまま、元気に過ごせる猫も多くいます。
